Is it possible to get 170 grams of protien per day on a vegetarian diet? I'm trying to plan a good diet to complement a daily workout routine. Can I get 170 grams protein in less than 2300 calories per day, following a strict vegetarian diet? (Also, can the protein not be mostly from soy? Because I've heard some nasty side-effects of too much soy intake, such as increased estrogen).
How do you maintain a vegetarian diet when your husband and kids are die hard meat eaters? My husband and my son both think the world is going to come to an end if we don't have meat daily. I just eliminated poultry out my diet, and I have been pork and red meat free for a few months now. I do plan on eating fish occassionally (I love fish anyway) but certainly not every day. Are there any vegetarian meals you can suggest? Or, does anyone know of a good vegetarian/pescatarian cookbook you can recommend?

So what would be a typical daily diet for a vegetarian dog? Not that I plan to try it or anything, my dog is a meat-eater.
Please help me sort out my daily diet and exercise!? Hey everyone, thank you for talking the time to click on my question :) Basically, I have a cheerleading competition on the 11th of April and I want to start improving my diet and exercise regime to help me lose weight, get healthy and gain flexibility. I do 3 hours of dance and 5 hours of cheerleading a week. I have a relatively healthy diet, I am vegetarian, drink lots of water and eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables but I REALLY need to start cutting out carbs, especially any food containing wheat, bread, pizza, pasta=my worst enemy!! The body parts I need to work out the most are my stomach and arms, but I want to tone all over. I have access to a gym. Please, if you have time could you write up a daily vegetarian eating plan or food ideas which cancel out carbs and please write up some good exercises? Thank you so much for your help in advance :)
Good Vegetarian Diet For a 14-Year Old? I'm a 14-year old girl, 90 pounds, 5'3'', and I really really really wanna become a vegetarian. But I need to make up for the protein somehow so is there like a website that tells you what all a 14-year old girl would need in her daily diet that doesn't involve meat to be healthy?
How to gain weight on a vegetarian diet? I am a vegetarian, I am 13. I weigh 80 pounds. I want to be at least 90-95 pounds. Can you give me a daily example of what I should be eating each meal? Help Vegetarian Diet Information? I'm a bit frustrated. I ordered "vegetarian cooking for dummies" thinking there would be nutritional dietary information to help me formulate a diet plan, sadly the book doesn't seem to have what I'm looking for. I need a website. I really wanted to start my diet this month. I'm losing hope and I don't want to have to go through the trouble of buying another book. Can someone please help me ? Please!!! I don't intend to use much or any butter or oils at all in my cooking that's just how I am. I know how to cook so avoid the obvious information. I am not interested in presentation of the food just interested in making a daily diet plan. I'm not trying to loss weight. I want a change of lifestyle and decided to choose vegetarian because of my moral beliefs as well. I want to make sure I'm getting the required vitamins and minerals and maybe some examples. I guess low fat/calorie veg recipes cause in my family we never used butter or ate fatty foods. I need ideas for a week, I need variety but no exotic hard to find products. I dont want to have to join an auction for rare foods lol. Not to confuse anyone but I'm not considered about /calories, I just don't want to have to use butter and oils in my cooking cause I don't use them in my non vegetarian meals anyway. Please leave constructive feedback and thank you for your time and I appreciate all the help.
Is my daily diet healthy for a teenager? I have a strange diet or at least thats what my friends say... I am a vegetarian so meats are a huge NO! I usually only consume 2-3 servings of fruit and 2 cups of yogurt each day with about 15 bottles of water. I am very slim, and underweight to be honest, but overall i feel healthy... Is my diet healthy? I'm not trying to loose weight, I just am wondering if it's a healthy life style choice?
May you please help me broaden my vegetarian diet because I am getting tired of the same old stuff? All I eat is Pasta Roni, Rice a Roni, bread, sweets, Taco Bell, and an occassional salad about 1-3 times a week. I am pretty sure I'm not getting the required daily vitamins and minerals. Not even close. I really need more variety, but I don't eat red or green peppers, white or red onions, chunky salsa, green salsa, kelp, or egg plant. Please give me some suggestions.
Is the Indian Vegetarian Diet the ideal diet? My friend's family eats whole wheat unleavened bread with curried green vegetables (which vary daily), and finish off with curried toor daal and brown rice. Is this what we should be eating more often?
how do I get a healthy, not real expensive, vegetarian diet from wal-mart? I say wal-mart because i live in a somewhat small college town where we don't have any places like wild-oats or anything. I would try to go organic but I only allotted myself 200 dollars a month for food so that may not work into my budget. I ate somewhat healthy for awhile, incorporating bok choy and carrots into my daily diet but lately it's just been lots of carbs and cheap meat. (steak, chicken breast, brats) My only experience with going meatless was this summer during a failed week-long detox. It ended up being a two day detox. Any ideas of what specifically i can use in my diet to replace some of that protein my body is so used to?
I need tips on changing daily diet...? My last question was a little misunderstood, so i'm going to rephrase. It's kind of hard for me to make the transition becuase, no one in my family is a vegetarian. I want to switch diets because, i've never craved any meat except for seafood. I would like to go vegetarian, because, I just feel gross when i do eat meats. But I do love seafood, so, i might not go COMPLETELY vegetarian, i'll just cut out the red meat, any tips on other ways to get the vitamins that meat contains and such things would help, i'm an active swimmer, so i need alot of energy. Wait, i found something on a website saying vegetarians who eat fish are "pesco-vegetarians" so yeah i think that is the route ill take.
What is a good daily vitamin for a young semi-vegetarian girl? Hello, I recently cut out all red meat in my diet (and I know this doesn't make me vegetarian btw) but I would consider becoming vegetarian inthe future. But as of right now, I only cut out red meat. Is there any food I should eat more of now? And what is a good inexpensive daily vitamin that will help me get the right vitamins?
What's your daily diet? (Vegan tips)? I'm fourteen, & thinking of becoming a vegetarian/vegan. Not only because I love animals, but also to improve my relationship with food (I've had a history of a restrictive eating disorder, which still bothers me, but we'll not go there). I'm just wondering what you're typical daily diet would be (as in breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks ect) & give me a few solid reasons on why to become veg. Thanks in advance. (:

A vegetarian diet... It's so hard, Any suggestions? The weird thing is whenever I eat meat, I'm more sluggish or tired, I don't know why, but it's just really hard on my stomach to handle when I eat it on a daily basis... I asked myself questions like, why is my stomach hurting so much? Is eating meat everyday causing this? So I did a little research online on becoming vegetarian... blah.. blah.. blah. Anyways, the thing is when I was eating more fruit, beans, soymilk, cheese, and seaweed everyday, I just noticed something changed in my body... I'm like a new person whenever I eat a vegetarian diet everyday... I'm not moody or depressed at all, I feel more energetic physically and mentally. I just hope I can stick to this diet, but it's hard... not so easy because I grew up eating meat all my life, but I'm trying to change. Anyone facing a similar situation?

Vegetarian Diet for Teenager? I really need to lose weight, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how I could go for it. I'm Vegetarian, and have been so for about 8 months, so if you could stick to the "no meat" thing, that would be amazing. I have PE class every other day for school, and I have a gym membership, so the workout should be fine for me. All I'm needing is maybe a daily eating schedule and maybe different exercises I could try? If anybody could help me out, that'd be amazing :)

Is my daily diet healthy? Im a 17 year old girl and i weigh about 129 lbs, last time i checked of course which was about 3 weeks ago. I am a vegetarian as well. I wake up and go to school and get there about 7:40 so i normally skip breakfast. At 9:15 however i eat about 150 calories of plain cheerios ( not the honey nut ones ) with a cup of skim fat free milk. About 80 calories as well as an apple. Then i eat again at 6:00. Then i normally eat either half a cereal bowl of vegetarian chili. which is about 170 calories with some saltine crackers ( 140 calories ) and 70 calories of weight watchers shredded cheese. Or instead of chili, i have a 120 calorie can of soup. For snack i eat a 90 calorie, low fat granola bar with another apple. I realize i only eat about 800 calories a day. But yet at times i still feel fat. i fit into juniors size smalls at places like aeropostale, hollister, pac sun...etc and i wear a size 5 - 7 juniors jeans. and im 5'7". but i still feel fat. does my diet appear tto be one that would make me gain weight?
How much protein is necessary in a semi-vegetarian diet or normal everyday diet? I am in the process of becoming a vegetarian, due to lack of time to focus on being one now, and the fact that my mom cooks meat-packed meals for dinner daily. Anyway, I try to avoid eating meat in totality, and I get most of my protein through milk, eggs, cheese, and other random sources. I have heard mixed answers about how much protein is needed in a day, so does anyone have a clear cut answer? If you could recommend protein filled foods, that'd be great too. (I'd also like to lose a little weight, so preferably not excess or fat-related protein like nuts)
I need tips for a balanced vegetarian diet when trying to build muscle? I have been working out a lot recently and am focusing on building some mores muscle. (Luckily I have a great supply of protein powder at my disposal.) Here plan for the day: This morning (I did a strength training workout combined with some light cardio) I mixed some frozen strawberries in with some diet v8 and two scoops of protein powder. (240 cals total and 45+ grams of protein. Lunch- About 2 1/2 cups of salad consisting of romaine lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, and light cesear dressing. (Only 15 calories and no fat for the dressing.) I also had immitation soy chicken with about 11 grams of protein and 90 calories. (No fat.) *I'm not sure how to calculate the vegetable proteins since I didn't check label & serving size when it was prepared. I'm having sushi for dinner and I'm pretty sure it contains avocados, carrot, ginger and comes with wasabi and soy sauce. Is this a good routine? And how much protein added on to the daily amount is required in order to build muscle? Also, I've been vegetarian for over a year, so no "Include some animal proteins" please. (I'll take my protein without the fat.) I do take vitamins including liquid B12 since I have had anemia for years. (Not related to vegetarianism.) Also, I have made a pledge TODAY to cut WAY back on sugar (Unless it's natural -like in fruits- I want to keep it to a minimal amount) and I am QUITTING caffiene. I know, I am expecting some difficulty, but I think it is healthier in the long run. Thanks everyone! :) Also, I am not overweight or trying to lose weight. I am actually on the slim side, which is why I want some muscular tone and definition. I also enjoy living healthy, but I don't want to drop lbs. I am 5'10'' and 123 lbs right now.
I'm going to go on a vegetarian diet for the one month. Is that long enough to see results? I'll still allow myself to have eggs, milk, butter, cheese, etc, but no meat, including fish. I guess that's what vegetarian means... Haha. Anyway, would one month be long enough to see results in my body, my skin, and just my overall habits? Or would I need to keep going for longer? I plan to take daily vitamins as well, so I get the correct nutrients. Also, are there any side effects? Is there anything I should be aware of? Thanks everyone! Cheers, - Claire That's nice, but I didn't ask for your opinion. I asked you to answer my question. I'm doing this to change the way I feel about myself and the way I look at life, not about how I look. I feel fine about that, I just need a change in my life. Thanks for the tips guys!
How can I make the switch to a vegetarian diet and also ensure I am getting adequate nutrition? I am considering making the switch to a diet containing mostly raw vegetables and fruits (and probably will still eat eggs, whole grain bread, and every once in a while some salmon/tuna) but I am having trouble planning first what to buy at the whole foods market and plan meals every week in a way that ensures I am getting most vitamins and minerals, protein, etc (I will take supplements and ensure I get B12 etc but still). Is there a place on the web that will map out my week with recipes and daily nutrition ideas? Is there a meal planner I can hire or something that has a focus on this types of lifestyles?
A Healthy Daily Diet? I am just getting into this fitness thing (I want to do some modeling and be healthier), and I was wondering what to eat. I am already a vegetarian. I want to cut out sugar and dairy pretty much completely (I am taking a multivitamin and calcium vitamins) to keep my skin clear and bright. I am 5 feet 6 and 1/2 inches, 117 pounds. I often find I just forget to eat or don't have enough time. I need to fix that, and exercise as well. Does anyone have any general or food tips? Thank you! :)
What's an inexpensive, low-fat way to add iron to my daily diet? Here's the problem: lately I've been very light headed. Sometimes I can't even shift my weight without getting dizzy. I thought it might have been my blood pressure because it was worse when I ate oranges all the time and I discovered that they can lower your blood pressure. But I went to the doctor and they gave me a clean bill of health. I stopped eating oranges and the dizziness mildly subsided, but got worse again. I was just told that maybe I don't have enough iron intake. So, I need a way to include iron in my diet without slapping a pound of meat on my plate every night. I'm not a vegetarian, but meatless alternatives are preferred. Please and thanks! Ask.com is a search engine, Honey. That's why I came here. :)
Ketosis weight loss diet for vegetarians? I am trying to start a ketosis diet to lose weight but I am a vegetarian. What are some good foods that I could eat? I read egg whites and cheese are good and protein powder, but no nuts. My main protein income is usually nuts and beans. Are beans still ok? And it says to up the fat intake. I only get about 5% of the daily fat as it is and barley lose weight. Uping the fat doens't make sense.. How would that help me lose weight? I do not want to take meds or anything to induce ketosis.
Daily diet plan? Holiday on July 11th what should i do to tone up and what should i eat each day for each meal to become skinnier and ( firmer) i weigh 136lbs and im 5"6. Thankyouu (im a vegetarian btw)
What is the best diet when I only have 13 weeks? I have 13 weeks to diet before Spring Break and I want to look good! Is it possible to loose 20 lbs by then? What would be the most effective diet? I am vegetarian so nothing where I would have to eat all meat. I am going to the gym starting now, how much would you recommend I excercise daily? I can't go to the gym on weekends but weekdays I can. Any websites or anything would help! Thank you all so much for your replies! I don't want to sound rude because I appreciate everyone's advice, but I know eating right and exercising can work, but obviously I need a little more guidance than that! So any programs or anything like that would be helpful. Thanks again!
Do you eat fruit on a daily basis? I'm just curious if other Vegans/Vegetarians eat a lot of fruit throughout the average day. Besides bananas and blue berries (made into a smoothie on a bi-weekly basis), I don't eat fruit. Unless you consider a tomato a fruit, there are no fruits in my daily diet.
And it says to up the fat intake. wondering if my daily diet is too much food? i'm trying not to weigh out food and count calories to get over an eating disorder, so just trying to eat when hungry, stop when full. breakfast: crunchy oatbakes cereal, (fairly big bowl) with oatmilk, and an activia yoghurt. lunch: a sandwich of somesort, egg filler tomorrow, on wholemeal bread, a light cheese spread today and sometimes its tofu, rocket and beansprouts with chilli jam. then a bannana or somesort of fruit. if im hungry later on i will either have: oatmilk, again, or munch on grapes, or have another yoghurt, (im not always peckish now, depends what my lunch was) if im really hungry i sometimes have soup with a roll dinner: generally a stirfry with quorn chicken, or vegetables with a vegetarian burger, or a healthy ready meal. occasionally i have rice or pasta. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- sometimes i have a chocolate bar as a snack in the day, but thats not very often, on weekends i tend to relax and sometimes have puddings and crisps. is this too much food though? i don't want to end up binging.
Fish oil a good supplement for a VEGETARIAN diet? I was watching Oprah the other day and she claimed that fish oil can be used as a supplement for many vegetarians who don't get their daily needs in essential fatty acids. I find that a bit ironic and am a tad bit confused by it. Does she not consider fish a meat, as I know many people do not? I'm not criticizing, I'm just trying to figure out how this has proved to be useful to vegetarians. I really want to try it though as I've read about the enormous health benefits it can provide. But I have a question about the way the fish oil is extracted from the fish. Do they kill the sardines (and other types) to extract the oil from the flesh? That may seem like a stupid question to some, but please try not to be harsh. I'm just extremely curious. Thanks for your help. I understand that fish is a meat. But I was wondering why Oprah claimed it a good supplement for a vegetarian diet. Basically, why do so many vegetarians take fish oil if it doesn't sound vegetarian? I thought I was missing something.
Becoming a vegetarian? I'm thinking of becoming a vegetarian but I was wondering how difficult it is. Can any vegetarians share experiences and your daily diet? Thanks.
Is being a vegetarian really all that healthy? I've thought about being a vegetarian a couple times before until I realized that you don't get the regular protein and nutrients that you're suppose to get daily. Is there other things that you can eat to have a regular protein and nutrients diet while being a vegetarian?

Any ideas of what I should eat before running........? I'm a vegetarian and I also run about 20 miles a week. Can anyone give me an idea of what I should be eating throughout the day so that ill have energy to run and also stick to a low fat vegetarian diet. A daily food plan would be cool.
who out there is a vegetarian? ok well i have been a vegetarian for about 7 months. I was just wondering if there was any other vegetarians out there. i also want to know what certain foods should i be focusing on? since i do not eat any sort of meat(fish/sea food, chicken, pork, cow...) i know that my body is being deprived of some nutrients. what foods should i be eating more often to make up for my "no meat" diet?... P.s i take daily vitamins so don't mention that, i already know that. i have also visited my doctor and he said i was healthy.
A healthy diet? I am a healthy 19 year old male with a height of 5'11" and a weight of 11 stone. I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian. Is this an appropriate daily diet for someone like me? 2 litres of full milk 0.5 litres of orange juice 0.5 litres of apple juice 3-4 bananas 1-2 helping(s) of vegetables 4-5 raw eggs (not cooked)* 1-2 helping(s) of cereal 1 bar of chocolate (do not ask me to remove this) *For the second question, what would the impact be if I consumed this much clean cholesterol? What are the effects of consuming clean cholesterol and how does the body handle it compared to damaged cholesterol? Sources and citations will get you browny points, though educated opinions are welcome. Additional: Do not warn me about salmonella poisoning, it is very unlikely to happen, especially from where my eggs are coming from.
Is it possible to bulk up as a lacto-ovo vegetarian? I have been a vegetarian my whole life (male, 150 lbs, 18-20 years of age), and I was wondering if there is a way to gain muscle mass and definition say within 12-14 months without compromising my diet preference. I exercise daily (either weight training or cardio), drink whey shakes after each session, and try to consume very little fat and sugar. Is there anything else I can do? Also, what are some fun cardio excercise alternatives that can be performed alone? (I detest running, but ironically, I love soccer.) I figured jump rope could be one.
what is in your typical daily menu? i am 28 years old and i am considering going vegetarian , or following a raw food diet for the health benefits mostly. however it does kind of concern me that i will not get enough of what my body needs. can someone reassure me that it is possible and maybe someone could give me a typical daily menu for a vegetarian. much appreciated in advance!!
Starting A Vegan Diet...Any Advice? I'm going vegan. It's something I've been thinking about for some time now, but I can first remember considering it when I learned of Daniel's challenge to the king to eat a vegan diet. I recently thought of it again because of my renewed vigor for the spiritual, enlightenment, and harmony...how could I live in harmony with the world when I ate the life in it, especially such tortured life that goes on in our slaughterhouses? Certainly, I would be much more comfortable hunting my own meat, because I could at least ensure that the animal doesn't live a life of suffering, and that honor and thanks would be given for the life instead of just an electrical zap to the brain and into a vat of boiling water. What really pushed me over the edge is a book I bought dealing with the diet of people who have fibromyalgia (FM), a syndrome I developed in the Marine Corps. It doesn't advocate vegetarianism specifically (it mentions fish and also has recipes with meat), but does speak of vegetarian, vegan, and raw diets tested on FM patients, with the greatest results coming from the vegan and raw diets. So that's the back story. I have a few questions for you experienced vegans out there...keep in mind that I will not only be on a vegan diet, but a natural diet, so pre-packaged, over-processed, additive-filled animal-free products are off-limits to me. 1. What are any tricks, tips, etc. that you've learned/discovered? 2. Do you grow your own food? Where do you live that you do this, and how hard is it? I usually end up killing plants...I don't have a green thumb. I have heard of little communes where people come together and have a patch of garden, would this be advocated? 3. I come from a bodybuilding background. It died with my diagnosis, but I like to maintain as much muscle as possible. I have already made the switch to soy protein from whey for my post-workout protein shakes. Are there any other ways to ensure that I am getting complete protein? I do know that grain + legume = complete protein. 4. Do you take any supplements? I hear that vitamin B12 is an animal-only supplement. How do you ensure that your supplements are vegan? 5. What does your daily diet look like? 6. I am not specifically looking to lose weight, but especially considering my concern with muscle mass, how much weight am I anticipating to lose? I exercise several times a week (cardio, weights, yoga). Thank you in advance. Namaste. cin2win: I should probably have also stated that I will be eating an extremely varied diet that will be rice in various enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Do I still need to worry about hair loss and whatnot? Thanks, tmkt, for reminding me of my delicious sushi. :( However, I would prefer specific answers to the questions from everyone who answers. Thanks. Hypertrophy: It's funny you mentioned that. I am a huge fan of Indian food, especially admiring how tasty it is without adding a bunch of junk. I have some pre-packaged Indian cuisine for convenience...it's kosher, vegan, and more, while also providing whole food with no added crap.
My son has decided to become a vegetarian? I was hoping for some info about vegetarianism. My 8 year son has decided he wants to be a vegetarian (he still eats fish, dairy, eggs). I thought this might just be a passing phase, but it's been 2 weeks now. I want to encourage him. Although no one else in the family is a vegetarian, we do eat pretty healthy - no fast food, no fried foods, etc. And Noah never was much of a meat eater anyway. My concern is how to get enough protein into his diet. What types of food can you recommend he eat? And does anyone have any good vegetarian recipes out there for me to try? Should I have him take a daily vitamin to place any nutrients he might not be receiving? Thanks!
vegetarian on a diet?? I'm trying to restrict my caloric intake to 1200 calories a day and burn about 400 daily. I am a pescetarian (I eat only seafood meat). How can I recieve all the nutrients I need without feeling fatigued or surpassing my calorie limit. I'm moderately active and feel tired without food (doesn't matter if it's nutritious or not). Thanks.
Am I technically vegetarian? My daily diet goes something like this 2 gallons of raw grassfed milk 8tbsp. of Organic Ghee Butter 3 Raw eggs per day Maybe once a week about 6 servings of vegetables Maybe once a week a couple handfulls of fruit (this is my actual diet, but I am just pointing out the blatent overuse of the word vegetarian, I mean after all I have technically been vegetarian for a few months, think of all the studies that could have been twisted now with this logic I showed you) Note I eat around 5500 calories a day

Diet for a vegetarian shot putt-er? Im on a new "regime" so to speak, I have shot practice 1-2 hours a day depending on the day of the week, and I do 30 minutes of weight and 45 of cardio at the local gym daily. I have a whey protein shake for breakfast, an average lunch, and I drink a lot of water. What Im looking for are new, vegetarian, recipes I can try out to spice up my meals and to help improve my throwing ability. Also any drill tips or techniques would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)
