Is it OK to drink beer while following a Vegan diet?

I enjoy having a beer here and there. I'm also in the infancy for becoming a vegan. Is drinking beer ok while on the vegan diet?

  1. well beer makes you fat
  2. All German beer is vegan. Some law about what can't be used to clarify it.
  3. of course you can drink beer just not too much :) and its also ok to drink as long as you workout :D
  4. Do what makes you happy. It's not the vegan police will arrest you or god will send you to hell for not following the vegan diet.
  5. You'd have to check with the individual breweries, since they have their different recepies, but most beers don't contain anything from animals.
  6. All the other answers are wrong! You cannot consume living things when you are a vegan (as is my understanding, Im not one my self). To make ANY AND EVERY alcohol you need to use yeast. Yeast is a living organism. Its more humane per se to drink cows milk than it is to consume yeast. Im not even sure if a vegan can eat bread cos of that. Basically being a vegan is impossible!!
  7. Most beers are unsuitable for Vegans, that includes most German beers despite what someone else has answered. This is because they use isinglass as a fining agent, and this is made from fish swim bladders. Becks is probably the most easily found Vegan beer, but more brewers are moving away from isinglass
  8. not a good idea
  9. beer will make you fat. Ever herd of the beer belly. if your trying to loose weight i wouldnt
  10. Beer is made from grain and yeast. Yeast is a living single microscopic bacteria but almost every fruit does have wild yeast in it. So I would think beer is perfectly fine
  11. One of the processes to get the beer to fall star bright is to use Isinglass, made from fish bladders. I don't know of any that advertise themselves as vegan beers. Mind you, after 1 to many, I sometimes turn into an animal, growl.
