Vegetarian Daily Diet

What is a good daily vitamin for a young semi-vegetarian girl?

Hello, I recently cut out all red meat in my diet (and I know this doesn't make me vegetarian btw) but I would consider becoming vegetarian inthe future. But as of right now, I only cut out red meat. Is there any food I should eat more of now? And what is a good inexpensive daily vitamin that will help me get the right vitamins?

  1. Just take regular vitamins and get more protein from chicken, eggs, soy, etc.
  2. you should have a daily steak. but seriously fish oil and iron are good
  3. You could do it very inexpensively and look up what foods have Vitamins B (all vitamins B, i.e. B-6, B-12, etc...) and Iron. Or you could just buy an iron and a Vitamin B-Complex Tablet form. Talk to a pharmacist to find out the best brand and the best amount you should take in a day! Good Luck!
  4. Don't listen to the other people. Red meat has no vitamins that are not in other foods. In fact, neither do chicken, eggs, or dairy. Chicken and fish have all the same vitamins as red meat without as much fat... BUT there is still a lot of cholesterol. Similarly, eggs and dairy have most of the same vitamins with a lot of cholesterol, and whole-fat dairy products also have way too much fat, and dairy is unnatural in general. (You probably think it'd be weird to drink a woman's breastmilk... so how come you will drink a cow's breastmilk? 0_o) Anyway.... if you want to get vitamins the healthy way, eat more vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, and whole grains. For example, you can get protein from nearly all vegetables, but there is a lot in whole grains, beans, and nuts. There are a lot of good websites that will tell you other nutrients, or you can just google the ones you're worried about. But if you eat a variety of foods (not the same things for every meal), you will probably get everything without even trying. In general, it's better for your body to get nutrients from food than from a pill. The only exception would be if your body has some problem acquiring certain nutrients. But you should see a doctor if you're worried about something like that.
  5. As with ANY diet plan, vitamins are only needed if you dont eat right. There is nothing in red meat that will keep you healthy.
  6. Since your a "semi vegetarian" any one-a-day will do. Learn to eat a balanced diet instead of relying on pills. This website, run by the Mayo Clinic and has a copy of the vegetarian food pyramid on it. Use it when planing your meals.
