If I need to eat 1836 calories a day to maintain my weight, how many do I need to eat daily to lose weight?
I used a BMR calculator to reach this number. I am 5'6" and weigh 120 lbs. My goal weight is 110. I'm not sure how much WHAT I eat is a factor, but I maintain a relatively balanced vegetarian diet. Thanks!

- I’m 5’5” and 125lbs and my BMR is 1,200 (and I know that for a fact, not just because I was told that). I don’t know if you’re a man or a woman so I’ll do both. A 120lbs man would have a 1.435 calories BMR (weight in kg multiplied by 10.2 + 879) A 120lbs women would have a 1,185 calories BMR rounded up to 1,200 (weight in kg multiplied by 7.18 + 795) I guess you got that 1,836 calories from some websites wanting for you to get fat and then run to them for help trying to lose weight! If you’re a woman, eat at least 1,200 calories and not more. If you’re a man, eat at least 1,435 calories and not more. Then exercise. For every 3,500 calories of exercising, you will lose one pound of fat reserves. If you’re 120lbs and your goal is 110lbs (you must be a woman then because guys want to weigh much more with a lot of muscle mass), you need to lose 10lbs of fat reserves, which is 35,000 calories or exercising (each pound is 3,500 calories). The slower you lose it, the better. Exercise for an average of 250 calories/day and lose ½ pound of fat reserve/week and you’ll be there in 20 weeks. (and don't eat more than 1,200 calories!)
- You do not need to lose weight. At 110 pounds you would be at least 20 pounds underweight. Never drop below 1500 calories a day.
