Vegetarian Daily Diet

Becoming a vegetarian?

I'm thinking of becoming a vegetarian but I was wondering how difficult it is. Can any vegetarians share experiences and your daily diet? Thanks.

  1. If you are not in your forties then you have no excuse for a mid-life crysis
  2. It's easy unless you're 1. Going out to eat 2. Eating at someone's house. If you go out to eat you'll find that America is OBSESSED with meat! It's like, WTF? I hate it, so I order burgers and take off the meat. I know it sounds weird, but it's yummy! No different from a veggie sandwhich. But at someone's house you either know what they're having and like it or starve.
  3. Oh man thats really hard. I tried for like 3 days and failed. If you can't be strong and will powered you will fail. I ate like salad and some soy (I learned that I hated soy). I wouldn't reccomend trying this unless you are willing to eat soy to keep up your health and substitute for all the other vitamans you miss out on and I hope you like salad and leafy greens.
  4. don't do it, becomeing a vegiterian wud suck! u couldn't eat brownies cake, most baked stuff because they all have eggs in them so that and bacon i cudn't live without bacon!
  5. Make sure you take supplements, like calcium, because you don't get that from veggies
  6. i would suggest not becoming a vegetarian unless your doing it to reduce your calorie intake.
  7. If you don't buy your own and are still living with your parents, it's probably going to be very difficult. If you do buy your own food, it probably won't be too hard. But it is hard to get proper protein and fat in your diet. I don't think it's a very good idea personally.
  8. I tried it... And I realized how dumb I was. If it was to protest the killing of animals... Guess what... They're still doing it, if you eat it or not... And if your doctor told you, then go for it... But if you think that it'll make you healthier without a doctor suggesting it, you'll be very tired. You'll get much less protein and constantly be tired...
  9. it can be difficult especially id you eat out, but it is generally a test of will power. Rember that everything has to die at some point so why not use the body to support more life. That's the food chain
  10. Being a vegetarian is really quite easy. The most difficult part is eating out, but with a little research you'll find there are lots of vegetarian options -- from full vegetarian restaurants, to taking advantage of the salads, pastas and potato fair on 'mainstream' restaurant menus. Oh, and I totally recommend "Quorn" when you have a meat craving. It's better than real meat, in my opinion. Available at most grocers. Gardenburger, on the other hand, is overpriced yuck that gives me gas.
  11. You will be able to eat almost anything you want. Just dont add meat to it. Cakes dont change, u can potatoes, rice, cookies, all fruit, salads, Pizza's without meat, anything you can think of. yu will notice the difference right away. (more energy, better sleep. etc ) Go for it!!! You can do it!!
  12. It depends on you. For me it was easy, for others it is difficult. Personally for a week i was craving veges and just never went back to meat. I don't have an exact daily diet since i eat when im hungry and sometimes thats not until 3 in the afternoon. For dinner though i like having a bowl of green beans with a little bit of shredded cheese on top, and for dessert i like having salad ( i dont know why!) I wish you all the good luck possible, since becoming a vegetarian is very hard. Also Might i suggest that after being a vegetarian for a few years becoming a vegan? thats im doing.
  13. I watched several documentaries about where our meat really comes from like these: http://www.chooseveg.com/animal-cruelty.asp http://www.meat.org . I was a vegetarian by the end of the week and it wasn't difficult at all. Being a vegetarian is actually a lot of fun :)
  14. I don't think it would be very difficult. I am not vegetarian but I seldom eat meat anyway. I do eat a lot of fish though so that would be a problem for me. But you can get enough protein from eggs and dairy. Just don't cut them out of your diet or you will be in trouble. I do suggest you keep eating fish though. The American Heart Association recommends eating at least 2 servings of fish a week. I could never stop eating fish, it's one of the reasons I'm in excellent health.
  15. You won't be in the majority when (see, I'm an optimist) you go veggie, but you will be part of a significant and growing minority. Over here in the UK supermarket own-brand foods are pretty well labelled and improving. Many premium brands are quite well labelled, but some are way behind. Restaurant menus are normally labelled with veggie options, but I have seen fish wrongly listed as veggie in a pub. Fact is, you are committing for reasons of health, ethics and environment (well, most of us do), and you need to become more knowledgeable about food than an omnivore. I suggest you browse for a good book on the subject - I'm not up on US veggie societies, so I've just bookmarked the PETA site:
  16. The big answer to your question is WHY!!! WHY in the world would you consider on becoming a vegetarian? Just get ready for deprivation of all sources of meat, meat by products, and as someone has stated; most carbohydrates because of some the ingredients are not conducive to the vegetarian diet. You'll have to eliminate all proteins that are animal source(s). I bet you can't wait for the tofu ice cream, make sure there's no cream (of cows) in it.
  17. Well this is only my first week but so far it's been pretty easy and the person who said you can't eat most baked goods because they have egg in them, vegetarians can eat eggs , it's vegans who don't eat or wear any animal products , there's quite a difference, vegetarians have more variety. Anyway just look up some things you like and put : Can vegetarians eat ___________? I did that it works good and write down some meal plans for the following week every week then after awhile you'll get used to it and you won't have to write it down anymore, although you may have the same thing once or twice a month :) Hope I helped :) -emily
  18. You need to eat a lot of protein. Beans, Beans and more Beans, rice and pasta and bread are your best bet for carbs. you need your veggies and fruits. Oh and if you get a steak craving have a portobella sandwich. It is the closest thing I have had to real meat. There are this things called boca burgers they are good. If you have any other questions email me.
  19. It is really quite easy!!! I did it for eight years and now I am even a vegan!!! You should check out my website http://vegan-recipies.com and yes recipes is spelled wrong in the web address
  20. i've been a vegetarian for 4 years and it isn't difficult at all for me. i eat dairy though. i usually eat: fruit, vegetables, whole grains (like cereal), rice, beans, cheese, soymilk, yogurt, vegan meat products or "fake" meat (like boca burgers, they're delicious!)
  21. Vegetarians eat a large variety of foods (especially from the culture they're from) except meats, fish and poultry. For example, Americans who are vegetarian eat salads with sliced eggs, vegetarian bacon bits, olives, carrot slices and dressing (without bacon) on it. You will notice that I said "egg." Most vegetarians eat eggs from chickens. "Vegans" do not. The difference between what is commonly called "vegetarians" and "vegans" is that vegans also abstain from eating eggs, butter, cheese and drinking milk. More examples: vegetarians will order a bean and cheese burrito with rice and salsa -- no beef or chicken or shrimp. Example: Vegans will order hummus with toasted breads with a side of Greek salad -- no egg slices. List of Grains: All Breads, Rice, Oatmeal, Quinoa, Wheat, Corn, Cous Cous, Buckwheat, etc. List of Nuts, Seeds and Legumes: All almonds, peanuts, cashews, filberts, Sunflower Seeds, Pine Nuts, Navy Beans, Soy Beans, Lentils, etc. List of Vegetables: Broccoli, Carrots, Kale, Cauliflower, Zucchini, etc. List of Fruits: Apples, Oranges, Pears, Peaches, Bananas, Pineapples, Melons, etc. Dairy (if you are not vegan): yoghurt, cheese, cottage cheese, milk, ice cream, etc. It's easier to think about the foods not on the list -- Vegetarians can eat all foods except for all meats (beef, pork, bacon, etc), fish (including shrimp), poultry (turkey, chicken, etc.).
  22. Being a vegetarian is pretty simply actually. I have been for a few years now, the only hard part was the first few months when you're still adjusting. I wasn't the type of person that had a real reason to do it. I just wanted to try it out and ended up loving it. I feel alot healthier and have more energy. Initially I lost a few pounds but nothing too dramatic, my doctor says i'm still in the healthy weight range. Since being a vegetarian I've tried more of a variety of foods, thai has become one of my favorites. I tend to use the vegetarian fake meats, brands such as morning star and boca. These brands carry chik patties, "buffalo chicken wings", "hamburgers" (of different seasonings), hot dogs.. ect that are all completely meatless. I also like to eat lots of fruits and greens. I highly suggest becoming a vegetarian! Good luck!
  23. I eat alot of fruit vegetables cereal and things like fake meat You can get it in the organic section ;)
  24. It's not difficult we replace meat with: beans, peas, nuts, seeds and whole grains. Most vegetarians eat eggs and dairy for protein too. Get the Vegetarian Starter Kit from - Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/
